State authorities have confirmed that security forces responded swiftly to the scene, and event organizers have been arrested. Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde expressed his sorrow, stating, “This is a very sad day,” and extended condolences to the grieving families. He also emphasized that the state would investigate the causes of the disaster and ensure accountability for those responsible.

The national emergency services rushed to the site to assist the injured children, some of whom were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Parents were urged to check local hospitals for any missing children. A disturbing video from the scene showed a large crowd of children, with some being carried away after the chaos.

Local reports identified the organizers as the Women In Need Of Guidance and Support Foundation, which had hosted a similar event for children the previous year. This year, the foundation had planned to entertain up to 5,000 children with promises of scholarships and other prizes. However, the event turned into a nightmare when the stampede occurred.

Governor Makinde has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, vowing that those responsible, whether directly or indirectly, will be held accountable for the tragic loss of life. As the community mourns, authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the stampede.
