In anticipation of the upcoming nationwide protests, the federal government has designated all 256 prisons across the country as “red zones,” emphasizing their inviolability.
Hailey Nababa, Controller General of Corrections, issued a statement in Abuja asserting the critical importance of prisons as national assets essential for public safety and security.
The statement noted, “Prisons and correctional facilities are vital to maintaining public order and national security. Any tampering or attacks on these facilities could disrupt law and order and worsen overall security conditions.”
The Correctional Service urged the public to support efforts in protecting these facilities and announced that comprehensive security measures are in place to safeguard them.
Additionally, the Ministry of Interior Joint Taskforce (MOIJTF) has been mobilized to enhance security around prisons nationwide.
