
In a significant operation, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) apprehended a 48-year-old businessman, Emmanuel Okechuku Orjinze, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Orjinze was en route to Paris, France, aboard Air France flight AF 878 when he was detained on May 21, 2024. A body scan revealed he had ingested 111 wraps of cocaine, totaling 1.603 kilograms, which he subsequently excreted over three days under NDLEA observation.

In a related incident, the NDLEA arrested 36-year-old Ibeanusi Solomon Nosike at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on August 8, 2024. Nosike was preparing to board a flight to Abuja, intending to connect to a Qatar Airways flight to Vietnam. After his arrest, he excreted 68 wraps of cocaine, weighing 1.282 kilograms, over a 12-day observation period.
These arrests underscore the NDLEA’s intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking within Nigeria. The agency has implemented stringent surveillance and intelligence operations at major airports, leading to the interception of individuals attempting to smuggle illicit substances internally.
