In a heated response to the recently concluded Local Government elections in Rivers State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denounced the entire process, labeling it as fraudulent and rigged in favor of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP). According to the APC leadership in the state, the elections were marred by widespread irregularities, voter intimidation, and a lack of transparency.

Addressing a press conference in Port Harcourt, APC spokesperson, Chief Chris Finebone, stated that the election was “a travesty of democracy.” He claimed that the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) failed to conduct a free and fair election, accusing the commission of colluding with the PDP to manipulate the outcome.

“The so-called LG election was nothing but a sham. It was a complete mockery of the democratic process, and we reject the results in their entirety,” Finebone declared. “We will not stand by while the will of the people is subverted by an election rigging machinery.”

Surprisingly, amidst this controversy, the APC has thrown its support behind former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, who is now serving as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Wike, a PDP heavyweight, has reportedly garnered respect from APC stalwarts for his bold leadership and his efforts in promoting infrastructural development during his time as governor.

APC’s endorsement of Wike is seen as a strategic move, sparking speculations about possible future collaborations between the two political giants. Party insiders suggest that the APC’s show of support for Wike could be a prelude to a broader political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Rivers LG election, meanwhile, remains a contentious issue, with calls from opposition parties for a rerun.
