As of 4:42 p.m. on election day, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received 66.9% of the total results from the Edo governorship election on its Results Viewing Portal (IReV). This translates to 3,023 out of 4,519 polling units submitting their results so far.
The election, initially scheduled to conclude by 2:30 p.m., was extended to 4:00 p.m. due to delays in the distribution of voting materials. Despite this setback, electoral officials have commenced counting votes across all polling units, and more results are expected to trickle in.
Anugbum Onuoha, Resident Electoral Commissioner, had earlier reassured voters that all votes would be transmitted electronically, provided there were no network issues. This measure aims to ensure transparency and credibility in the electoral process.
The ongoing upload of results on the IReV portal allows Nigerians to track the election’s progress in real-time. As the counting continues, tensions are expected to rise, with political parties and citizens eagerly awaiting the outcome.
INEC’s efforts to ensure a free and fair election have been commendable, and the electronic transmission of results is a significant step towards enhancing the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.
